A service run by women for women who have experienced sexual violence at any time in their lives.

Our aims and values

Our Organisation

Greater Manchester Rape Crisis began over thirty years ago as a feminist collective responding to the needs of women who shared their experiences of sexual violence. GMRC is now a registered charity providing vital services for women and girls throughout Greater Manchester, and beyond.

Confidentiality

GMRC prioritises individual’s rights to confidentiality. We work within Data Protection legislation and our own Confidentiality Policy. All volunteers and staff are provided with the necessary training to ensure confidentiality is respected.

GMRC does need to hold certain information about you, for example, to help monitor your own progress or the performance of the organisation. Any information we collect, whether paper or electronic records, including referral forms, assessments, client records and feedback forms, is private and confidential. This information is kept securely in locked filing cabinets or electronically on a secure server with restricted access.

Whilst every effort is made to maintain confidentiality, GMRC is legally obliged to break that confidentiality in the following circumstances:

  • You give informed consent for GMRC to pass on information to specified people and organisations
  • You disclose information about the risk of abuse or harm to children
  • There is a serious risk of harm to yourself and others
  • There is a serious risk of suicide
  • The court or legislation requires that GMRC provides information

If a need to share information arises, we will seek permission from you. Where this is impossible, GMRC will negotiate with you what will be shared, and to whom. You will be kept informed at all times.
